Completed the first three sections of the six planned for today, Carlos Sainz continues to lead the standings, fighting with another nice Porsche 911 in the hands of Spanish Ferreiro. Few developments during the first half, with Sainz following problems in the carburetor of his car and not finding the optimal performance. However, only a section has resisted so far, since the beginning of yesterday’s rally. Behind the leading duo, are placed two Lancia 037, the italian Peter -despite losing some time in the sixth section- and the Norwegian-Jensen, with Toño Sainz closing out the top five so far. We’ll see what we can expect for the last three sections remaining for the conclusion of the rally: Burgohondo, Mijares and Serranillos.

Then came the day we all expected. Finished presentations, previous procedures, and when we had not yet recovered from the strong emotions experienced in the pre-start meeting yesterday at the Royal Palace of Madrid, at 18 hours a day plucked the first stage of Spain Historic Rally 2012 . And it did in Avila, another unique scenario and the height of such a test, scoring for the European Championship. The imposing city walls of Avila served as a starting point from which the 76 licensed vehicles, with its characters on board, were taking out and receiving the affection of fans. And the head of them, of course, Carlos Sainz and his co-driver Luis Moya, the most acclaimed by the people present there.
Moment of truth. Ahead, four flights reserved on the agenda of this first stage, two passes through the port Herradón Arrebatacapas and a beginning … And no one expected. The first leg had to be neutralized through no fault of the rally, to be forced to let an ambulance on the way to help a motorist crashed out of the race. It was then the second installment in charge of setting the top of the race. And it fell on the side of Carlos Sainz and his Porsche 911, showing that also knows how to dominate a landmark. A law clearly imposed at the end of the first stage and ending the day with an advantage. And that Sainz has not proven entirely comfortable to have to fight a lot with the car, not fully enjoy the driving. In addition, a technical problem with a carburetor engine has been prevented from going at full capacity.

Behind closed battle with the European standard, with the galician Jesus Ferreiro (Porsche 911) the most effective can set the fastest time in the fourth section. The Italian “Pedro” (Lancia 037) is third. Toño Sainz, with initial problems when burning waste oil, is sixth, third in National Speed.
Classement première étape
1. C.Sainz/L.Moya (Porsche 911), 24:26.7; 2. J.Ferreiro/J.Anido (Porsche 911), a 8.2; 3. “Pedro”/A.Giovanni (Lancia 037), a 20.5; 4. S.Giombini/S.Cirillo (Lancia 037), a 55.4; 5. V.Jensen/E.Pedersen (Lancia 037), a 1:05.8.

With cars located in the park closed, Carlos Sainz gave his comentarioas before the start of the race, just after arriving to make a previous test in Puerto de la Cruz del Hierro. “This morning when we made the first pass was not going too well but now I have left regulated conditions. reunion with Luis Moya I see with great enthusiasm and what better reason to do competing together. Recalling old days we enjoyed much training. Two or three miles from the first tranche have been enough to identify. We have spent many hours and many miles together that has been simple and natural. it is impossible after so many years together that was not as formerly. In this sense, no problems. </ em>

On his Porsche, Sainz said: “Stranger I have found the car. It is going back 25-30 years ago. The hardest thing is to understand this 911. Especially coming from the Golf test last week, perhaps the modern rally car, and move into a historic vehicle, which is a shock. this is not to say that Porsche is not great, seeing it in its context, when so marked an era. from this afternoon and tomorrow, to enjoy it. “</ em>

“A-fans-Sainz still enjoy as I say we will. It is important to keep evidence of this kind in Avila near Madrid, where it is difficult to have rallies. So be careful and respect signs and be placed in correct and safe sites </ em> “.

Luis Moya …
“At first I reread the notes I was strange. To which I sat in the car goes all natural. It makes a tremendous enthusiasm and I’m having a great time. Carlos knows that I have for what you need. I love to feel the competition from new </ em> “.
